Day 2 - Mon, Aug 08, 2011, Saranac Lake, NY - St. Johnsbury, VT

Just wanted to add this picture to the blog - our hotel on Day 2 ...

Our second day was even better than the first!  Not a lot of kilometers today but quality won over quantity.

DJ - you were right about how much carry space you need while on a long trip.  We are going to mount the compression bags on top of the saddle bags to give us more space and easier access to our stuff.  Also to keep the center of gravity lower - this is VERY important - duh.

This is the ferry we took from Port Kent, NY to
Burlington, VT.

Met some very interesting people on the ferry
including 2 brothers from Indianapolis who
were on their way to Bar Harbour.
They were riding Harleys of course.

We stopped here at the "99" in Burlington, VT
for a late lunch/dinner.
The name of the place had something to do with
age requirement and Jeanie seemed to qualify so
we got in right away.

Now this place was a real find!
We were just looking for a rest and a
cold drink and found the
"Rainbow Sweets Cafe & Bakery."
Gourmet pastries & desserts - and proprietor
Bill Tecosky could have a second career as
as stand-up comic.

Synopsis...

Weather:   Slight rain in the AM near Lake Placid.  Removed rain gear in Burlington.  Beautiful riding conditions thereafter.

The route:   Mostly Highway 2 with it's incredible scenery.  Now at times we were reminded of Durham 23 east of Toronto.

Accommodation:  Comfort Inn, very spacious suite, very comfortable.  Free breakfast in the AM.

We'll see what tomorrow brings,

Bill & Jeanie

  1. I love the pictures, they are worth a 1000 words.
Aside from the great roads and beautiful scenery, enjoy the conversation with interesting people along the way! Not everybody loves a biker, but sometimes it seems that way.
The ride to Bangor should be a nice one.
    Enjoy,
    Dave
